How to Choose the Right Mattress

When you’re shopping for a mattress, it is a lot like buying a new car. You’ll need to have a list of attributes or features that appeal to you or are necessary for your lifestyle. You’ll also need to factor in your budget and then finally, take your mattresses of choice for a test run.

COST
When picking out your mattress, cost should not be your top priority. The cost of the mattress should be on your checklist but not the sum of it. Since you are going to be logging hours upon hours on that mattress, there are other factors that can outweigh the price. Make sure you purchase the best mattress you can afford.

BACK PAIN
Back pain is a huge factor in choosing the right mattress. If you suffer from back pain, you should opt for a mattress that can help heal that pain instead of searching for a surgical option. For example, Tempur Pedic mattresses are known to help alleviate back pain because of their hi-tech design and space age material. Your mattress should support your spine and keep your back and neck in alignment while you’re sleeping.

COMFORT & SIZE
Before purchasing your mattress, you’ll need to consider your comfort level in terms of firmness, lifestyle and size. Mattresses have differing firmness levels and each person is different in their opinions of what level is best. Sleep experts say a medium firm mattress is the best for most body types, however each individual is different and should buy according to their own comfort level.

You should also keep in mind your lifestyle: do you have children? Are you single or a couple? If you are a couple looking for a mattress, you should always have a minimum of a Queen size mattress – King size are the best choice for families, especially if you expect to be having the little ones share any space in your room. Make sure you take into consideration the size of your bedroom as well.
